2007 Visual Arts Development Awards
14 Awards to BC Artists
For the eleventh year in a row, the Visual Arts Development Awards (VADA)
will provide opportunities for British Columbia’s emerging and mid-career
visual artists and artisans. VADA is a Vancouver Foundation initiative,
administered in partnership with the Contemporary Art Gallery, offering
assistance for non-institutional exploration in new techniques or processes
to individuals from all cultures who are working in traditional or contemporary
media or techniques. This year, 14 recipients will receive a total of
$56,500 in awards. An independent jury of five members selected the following
award recipients from 110 applications from across the province.
VADA 2007 Recipients
Eric Deiss (Vancouver), Jim Holyoak (Salt Spring Island), Collin Johanson
(Vancouver), Lumario Johnson ( Port Hardy), Germaine Koh ( Vancouver),
Sasha Krieger (Vancouver), Scott Massey (Vancouver), Cindy Mochizuki (Vancouver),
Gailan Ngan (Vancouver), Laura Piasta (Vancouver), Ryan Sluggett (Vancouver),
Janet Wang (Vancouver), Jennifer Wood (Port Coquitlam), Elizabeth Zvonar
(Vancouver).
2007 VADA Jury
Paul Mathieu, ceramist and Associate Professor at ECI, recipient of
the Saidye Bronfman Award for excellence in the fine crafts in 2007; Babak
Golkar, artist and past VADA recipient.; Sonny Assu, artist working within
contemporary First Nations art; Jen Budney, curator at Kamloops Art Gallery;
Vanessa Kwan, interdisciplinary artist and past VADA recipient.
